Story: Marco C., SaaS founder
Reposition a product
Marco C. was building a workflow tool for small teams. Calling it a “productivity platform” put him against much larger players. He used Thinktree to compare narrower segments and reposition around delivery for boutique consultancies. It is a marketing story, not a verifiable review.
The pattern
The product does too much for too many people. The site speaks category language, not customer language. “Similar” competitors win on awareness, not on the job. You need to narrow who you serve and which outcome you promise.
How to explore it
One node per positioning candidate. In each: who buys, which pain, who is too big for you, what proof you have. Thinktree attacks assumptions (“we are for all small teams”) until a sentence remains that a customer would repeat.
Then you compare: which niche you can reach, which one forces you to build a different product.
Outcome
A tighter position and the nos that make it believable. Not an automatic rebrand and not a generated slogan. How you present the product stays your decision.
